Asahi Kasei Honda Battery Separator Corp is a joint venture formed to produce Hipore™ wet-process, coated lithium-ion battery separators for electric vehicles at a new Port Colborne, Ontario plant. The venture, with Honda Canada Inc. holding a 25% stake, targets an annual capacity of about 700 million square meters of coated separator (roughly enabling 1 million EVs per year) and production starting by 2027, aiming to strengthen North American EV supply chains and Honda’s carbon neutrality goals for 2050.
