Indian Institute of Technology Madras is actively developing zinc-air battery technologies, including rechargeable zinc-air cells for EVs and zinc-air cassettes for EV battery swapping, and operates a 1MW Indigenous Battery Storage system at IIT Madras Research Park with IIT Madras-developed BMS hardware and software; it also provides battery testing services via the Central Electronics Centre for lead-acid, Li-ion, and advanced chemistries.
