INMETCO is described as a battery recycling facility that processes rechargeable batteries (NiCd, NiMH, Li-ion) and recovers metals such as nickel, cadmium, and cobalt, producing materials like ferronickel, nickel-iron scrap, and steel scrap for industrial use. It has served as a primary processor for battery recycling programs (Call2Recycle RBRC). As of February 2024, INMETCO's owners filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and the facility was shuttered, with assets being sold.
