KoBold Metals
About
KoBold Metals is a mineral exploration and development company that uses AI and scientific computing alongside geologists to find critical minerals.
It builds its own sensors, a central database of geological data and predictive models, and tests them on its own exploration projects. Kurt House, Josh Goldman and Jeff Jurinak founded it in 2018 to find more of the copper, cobalt, lithium and nickel needed for electrification. Its first discovery is the Mingomba copper deposit in Zambia, which it is now developing as a mine, and it also explores in Québec and Finland.
The 2025 Battery Report notes its May 2025 move to acquire a stake in the Manono lithium project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, investing $1B.
