Michigan Technological University (MTU) is actively involved in battery-related activities, most notably as a leader in EV battery recycling and in a partnership with Eagle Mine to advance domestic lithium-ion recycling and refining, supported by a $74 million funding package. MTU runs a campus-wide battery recycling program for consumer batteries (AA, AAA, D, etc.) and works with local partners like Remy Battery to offer replacement-battery discounts. The university also concentrates on commercializing sustainable battery supply-chain technologies and scaling recycling from lab to pilot facilities to support the EV supply chain.
