National Grid offers the ConnectedSolutions Battery Program, which enrolls the inverter controlling a qualifying battery system to allow National Grid to discharge the battery during peak demand. Participants can earn averages around $1,200 per year, with other listings citing about $250 per year; in Massachusetts, incentives can be about $275 per kilowatt of a battery’s average contribution during summer events, and in New York around $180 per summer. The program is designed to reduce peak energy use and, by extension, air pollution.
