About

The New York Climate Exchange is a nonprofit consortium led by Stony Brook University that is developing a climate campus on Governors Island in New York City for research, education and jobs.

It works with 48 partners and focuses on making climate data more useful across sectors, on livable cities, and on climate finance, including policy guidance and new financing strategies to scale investment. Its 2026 Climate Tech Fellows cohort focuses on energy and resilience.

The Trust for Governors Island and the New York City Mayor's Office selected the Exchange in April 2023 after a two-year global competition. Its campus, due in 2029, will include New York City's first large-scale mass timber building and a solar canopy.
