About
NC State University, through the College of Engineering Battery and Energy Storage Systems Initiative, aims to be the premier center for battery and energy storage systems engineering, teaching, and research in North Carolina, advancing next-generation technologies such as solid-state lithium-metal and flexible fiber batteries, as well as materials safety and supply-chain resilience. On Centennial Campus, NC State operates a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to localize energy storage and help reduce peak demand. The initiative is supported by centers like the FREEDM Center and NC Clean Energy Technology Center, which help connect research to industry and education to accelerate commercialization of energy storage technologies.
