Sharp Corporation is an Osaka-based electronics company that makes and sells telecommunications equipment, electrical appliances and electronic components.
It traces its origins to a metalworking shop that founder Tokuji Hayakawa opened in Tokyo in 1912; the name comes from his 'Ever-Ready Sharp Pencil' of 1916. Sharp reports about 35,000 consolidated employees, more than half of them outside Japan.
The 2025 Battery Report lists Sharp among Asia-Pacific metal-air and flow battery players and notes a memorandum of understanding between Sharp and Energy Storage Industries Asia Pacific.
