Fermi Energy
About
Fermi Energy develops cathode active materials (CAM) for lithium-ion batteries, to be made in the United States with lower-energy processes.
Its Gen-1 CAM is a validated drop-in material for NMC and NCA chemistries that uses a proprietary low-temperature calcination process, which the company says cuts energy use by 70%. Its Gen-2 CAM uses abundant manganese and iron in place of nickel and cobalt, aiming to halve CAM cost while supporting fast charging and a wide temperature range. Co-founders are CEO Zhengrui 'Ray' Xu and CTO Feng Lin, and its work is backed by NSF and New York State grants.
The 2025 Battery Report lists Fermi Energy among sodium-ion battery players in the Americas, in its materials group.
