Flexitricity
About
Flexitricity is an Edinburgh-based company that optimises flexible energy assets, including battery storage, in Great Britain's electricity markets.
Founded in 2004 by Dr Alastair Martin, it became Britain's first demand side response aggregator in 2008, was acquired by the Alpiq Group in 2014 and later became an energy supplier. For battery owners it combines machine learning forecasts, which account for cycle count, depth of discharge, temperature and degradation, with a human-in-the-loop trading desk and a 24/7 control room. It covers wholesale markets, the Balancing Mechanism, reserve and frequency services, DSO services and the Capacity Market under one contract.
The 2025 Battery Report lists Flexitricity among UK optimizers in its BESS tech stack.
