Abound Energy, formerly Zinc8 Energy Solutions, develops Zaeras, a zinc-air battery system for long-duration energy storage of eight hours or more.
Zaeras uses zinc and air as fuel and separates power from energy so systems can scale, and the company says it has no thermal runaway, no capacity fade over that duration and uses low-cost, non-toxic materials. It holds more than 15 international patents and designs to UL 1973, UL 9540 and NFPA 855. Abound also has a resource recovery technology, Novare, and in 2026 expanded into hydrogen through its H2Si agreement. It is based in Richmond, British Columbia.
The 2025 Battery Report lists Abound among metal-air and flow battery players in the Americas (metal-air) and among Americas zinc battery manufacturers (zinc-air).
