Bettery
About
Bettery is an Italian start-up developing NESSOX, a semi-solid flow lithium-oxygen battery with a lithium metal anode and an oxygen-rich flowable cathode.
Founded in January 2018 as a spin-off of the University of Bologna, it grew out of the university's Laboratory of Electrochemistry of Energy Materials. Because the design comes from redox flow batteries, energy and power can be sized independently. Bettery reports a laboratory specific energy of 500 Wh/kg and a target cost below $150/kWh, without heavy metals or critical elements. It sees uses in homes and apartment blocks, off-grid renewable systems and ships.
The 2025 Battery Report lists Bettery among Europe's metal-air and flow battery players.
