CarbonScape
About
CarbonScape is a New Zealand company that makes biographite, a drop-in graphite anode material for lithium-ion batteries, from forestry by-products.
Its patented process converts renewable woodchip feedstock into battery-grade graphite, and it presents this as a way to make anode material locally rather than rely on Chinese synthetic graphite or mined natural graphite. The company names Stora Enso, CATL and ATL as backers, has reported a 90% spheroidization yield, and holds a U.S. patent on its graphite technology.
The 2025 Battery Report shows CarbonScape in the Anode Active Materials box of its map of emerging players valued above $30 million.
