HILABS
About
HILABS (Haq Innovation Laboratories) is a German company that has developed a rechargeable, non-flammable zinc battery cell for stationary electricity storage.
The pouch cell is free of lithium, cobalt and nickel and is made in-house from raw material mix to finished cell, using low-cost materials, robots and 3D-printed components. HILABS says it has addressed the problems that kept zinc batteries from rechargeable use, such as dendrite growth, short cathode life and corrosion, partly through a proprietary separator. Its cells are at TRL 6, have reached 7,000 charge-discharge cycles in long-term tests, and target more than 10,000 cycles and a 25-year life. The inventor is Dr. Manan Haq.
The 2025 Battery Report lists HILABS among European zinc battery manufacturers.
