Type One Energy
About
Type One Energy is a U.S. company developing stellarator fusion power plants.
It was formed in 2019 by stellarator researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, who had built and run the HSX experiment there. It works with energy producers to commercialise the technology and is the technology provider and equipment maker for the Tennessee Valley Authority's Infinity Two project, planned as a grid-scale commercial fusion plant. Its early work was backed by ARPA-E and Department of Energy fusion programmes, and Tennessee has licensed it to operate fusion machines at its Bull Run site.
The 2025 Battery Report shows Type One Energy in the 'energy supply' layer of the AI energy stack on its data center page.
