About
V4Smart is a German maker of high-power lithium-ion cylindrical cells.
It grew out of VARTA's large lithium-ion cell unit, founded in 2021 as V4Drive; in March 2025 Porsche AG took a majority stake in the new joint venture, with VARTA as a minority shareholder. Its Generation 1 21700 cells deliver up to 400 W peak power each and are fitted as standard in the Porsche 911 GTS T-Hybrid; Generation 2 adds an ultra-high-power cell and a high energy-and-power cell. It makes cells in Ellwangen (series production since 2024) and Nördlingen (since 2025) and also offers R&D services.
The 2025 Battery Report lists V4Smart among high-performance battery cell suppliers and emerging lithium-ion cell makers.
