Electra.aero
About
Electra.aero is a U.S. company developing hybrid-electric 'Ultra Short' aircraft that can take off and land in about 150 feet.
Its EL9 carries nine passengers and uses blown lift and distributed electric propulsion; Electra applied to the FAA for Part 23 type certification in December 2025. The concept came from founder John Langford's work with MIT researchers, and a piloted demonstrator, Goldfinch, has flown. Partners and investors include Lockheed Martin, Safran and Honeywell, Bristow holds the first EL9 delivery slot, and the company is also building a defense business and a factory in Ohio.
The 2025 Battery Report lists Electra among major battery-electrified aviation players in the Americas (eSTOL/eCTOL).
