ORE Energy
About
ORE Energy is a Dutch company developing an iron-air battery for low-cost, long-duration storage of renewable energy.
The battery works by reversible rusting: during discharge it takes in air and turns metallic iron into rust, and during charging it turns the rust back into iron. It uses iron, water and air, which the company chose because they are abundant, cheap and recyclable, and its aim is storage lasting from hours to days without fire risk. The company started in 2022 and its team works on electrolyte and anode development for iron-air cells; it says it is moving toward scaled production.
The 2025 Battery Report lists ORE Energy among Europe's metal-air and flow battery players.
